And speaking of bitter ... did that contest have to end RIGHT in the middle of my vacation?! I wanted in, but there was no time to get a post done. Sheesh.

Well, at least I got a little taste of the 24 bitters ... a little bird sent me a tiny sample. I have no idea where he got it, and I didn't ask.

;)

Oh, and I'm intrigued by the homemade gentian wine ... I'd love to hear more about that, Sylvan.

Is it too late to write a piece about another blogger making me bitter? Anyway, nice haul! All this discussion of the White Negroni makes me want to see if I can fit my oh-so-bitter homemade gentian wine in there. I've been remiss in finding ways to use it.

Wow, quite the haul!. In just searching for the Suze I came across this page which also feature other 'gentian' flavored beverages. I had no idea this what 'gentian' was. Thanks Chuck!

Of everything you brought back though, I think the Nikka and Rhubarb liqueur are the two most intriguing.

Glad you had a blast, look forward to the travel posts!

Good haul! The white negroni they were doing at the Varnish was Gin (it was not the Old Tom, but it was something else in the distributor's portfolio), Cocchi, and Suze. I believe it was the day Eric Seed was there for Sporting Life. As for the Suze, they have it behind the bar normally. I think Alperin has his Mom bring back a bunch every time she comes to visit.

Matt,

I know the guys at Varnish were using Cocchi Americano in white Negronis as well, but I think that they use it in place of the Lillet without the Suze. Hmmmm...I guess that doesn't really help at all, does it?

Thanks Matt! It's still an evolving look ... nothing much happened while I was on vacation, but we're going to keep whacking at it for a while. I'm really, really happy with how it's going so far.

Regular Plymouth would work well, but I'm not sure what I'd swap out for Suze, as it's got a fairly unique flavor. If you're still seized with the need, come on over and I'll make you one. :) I still have a little left from my old bottle.

A) Great look to the new site, Chuck! That Marleigh and her wily ways.

B) I'm suddenly seized by the need to have a White Negroni, but lacking all but the Lille Blanc. What would be a good sub for Suze? Just go back to Campari? Or will my lack of Navy Strength Plymouth be my undoing here?
